FAQ about Sustainability
Sustainability comes first at Pink Gellac. We are a certified B Corporation™ and we are not just that, it is because we believe that sustainability is essential. Socially and environmentally, the world is under pressure and we take our responsibility to make a positive contribution to this.
Yes, since October 2024, Pink Gellac has been a so-called ‘Benefit Corporation’ or B-Corp. B Corps are companies that, besides making a profit, work towards a more inclusive and sustainable economy. B Corps strive to make a positive impact on their employees, the community, the environment and their customers.
Pink Gellac was assessed by B-Lab and achieved the necessary points to be labelled a B corp. You can become a B corp if you can demonstrate in several key sustainability & social domains that you meet the high requirements of B corp. For Pink Gellac, this means concretely that we received more than the required 80 points; 87 to be precise. This is mainly due to our sustainable packaging project, the positive impact we as a brand make on consumers by, for example, encouraging self-expression and creating a workplace where everyone can shine.
All our products are vegan. The full ingredients list can be found on the packaging of each product and on our website.
For Pink Gellac, safe use of products is of the utmost importance.
Pink Gellac is produced in the European Union and naturally complies with the European Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009/EC); this gives you the assurance that the products are safe and approved for the European market. Of course, we also pay great attention to the correct way of application and removal; we supply user instructions with every order and everything can also be consulted on our website afterwards. We also recommend as standard to use the LED lamp that matches the products you use; these are matched and only then can we guarantee that the gel polish is properly cured.
Do you have any additional questions? Our staff are available to our customers 7 days a week; both our customer service team (via email, phone or whatsapp) and our staff in our boutiques.
Animal testing for cosmetics is banned throughout Europe. All our products are cruelty-free. This means that we do not use laboratory animals to evaluate or test products and never commission or allow suppliers of ingredients & raw materials to carry out animal tests.
Pink Gellac's mission is to make salon-quality gel nail polish accessible to everyone; for all ages (18+), backgrounds, sexual preferences and regardless of what gender you identify with. We have formulated a new brand impact mission in which we have set ourselves the goal of empowering and encouraging all individuals from minority groups to express themselves. We believe that by making self-expression accessible and celebrated, everyone has the opportunity to live an energetic, fulfilled and happy life, especially those who need it most. We have a Diversity, Equality and Inclusiveness policy for our employees and, for example, we consciously work with a diverse group of influencers who are ambassadors of our brand and, through the use of ‘user generated content’ and soon to be Product Detail Pages, we make sure that you can see how our colours look on different skin tones.
Pink Gellac has been a proud supporter of Pink Ribbon since 2023. 1 in 7 women will get breast cancer. Pink Ribbon is there especially for all these women. Pink Ribbon raises money for projects and research to prevent breast cancer and to treat it better. They also do all they can to make life after breast cancer as pleasant as possible. We support Pink Ribbon by launching products where part of the proceeds go to Pink Ribbon, participating in a walk with our team and organising events for our fans where the proceeds also go to Pink Ribbon.
Pink Gellac has established a Code of Conduct that underpins all business relationships and suppliers. The Code of Conduct contains rules of conduct and the standards and values Pink Gellac is founded on. Pink Gellac staff are also expected to act in accordance with this Code of Conduct at all times.
Our clear glass bottles of cuticle oil, for example, may be disposed of in the bottle bank, possibly with some product left over but preferably just completely used. The glass recycler can handle that just fine. Any residual product left in the bottle and other contamination burns in the melting process. However, you can do the recycler a favour by throwing the tassel in the residual waste already. Do not flush any leftover product down the sink but throw it, possibly using a sheet of kitchen roll, in the residual waste.
Our black glass bottles containing the gel nail polish cannot (yet) be recycled, as they are black and not transparent, and therefore belong with the residual waste. Handing them in as small chemical waste is not necessary. The reason our bottles are black and not translucent is to protect the gel nail polish from UV radiation, or daylight. If the gel nail polish is exposed to daylight, the product hardens and can no longer be used.
As every municipality has different rules for waste separation, we recommend you always check and follow the local guidelines.
When the bottles are properly empty, they can be disposed of with the plastic waste, including the cap. Our bottles and caps are made of PE and PP plastic and both types of plastic are easy to recycle. Please dispose of the empty bottles in your plastic waste so that they can be recycled into a new product. In the unlikely event that you want to throw away a bottle that still contains remover or cleaner, throw it away with the small chemical waste at your local recycling centre. As every municipality has different rules for waste separation, we recommend you always check and follow the local guidelines.
In our packaging, we are phasing out virgin (virgin means new) plastic where we can. In our accessories, where plastic was most prevalent, we will have already phased out plastic for 90% of the range by the end of 2024. We still use plastic for the bottles of our liquids, but we are running a project to make them more sustainable by using recycled plastic. This has a lower impact than single-use glass bottles.
Yes, we do. When you place an order with our webshop, you can choose delivery via Budbee. We do our best to avoid space in the shipping box, thanks to the new shipping boxes we recently developed. As a result, we already ship a lot less air, so we don't need to use as much padding. Unfortunately, it is not always entirely possible to ship without padding material. We looked carefully at which material is best suited for stuffing in the packages and at the same time has the least environmental impact. In doing so, these air-filled plastic bags came out on top. Because the bags are air-filled, we use as little material as possible for the filling while protecting the items in the box from damage. The bags are made of post-industrial PE-LD (polyethylene low density), which means it is made of recycled plastic. The plastic comes directly from production and manufacturing processes, such as cutting scraps, packaging waste or defective products and is recycled into these plastic bags. This type of plastic can be well recycled so throw these bags away with your plastic waste. Then together we will ensure circular use of this material.
