How to remove Build it Base at home

If you applied Build it Base, at some point, it’s time for a fresh start. Removing Build it Base is similar to taking off regular gel polish, but since it's a bit stronger, it requires a little extra care—especially when soaking. On this page, we’ll walk you through the process step by step, so you can safely and easily remove Build it Base without damaging your natural nails.

Step 1 - File off most of the gel

Use the 100/180 grit Nail File to file down the Build it Base as much as possible without reaching the natural nail. By filing only the gel, you avoid damaging your natural nails. If you’ve built an apex, you may need to file a bit more than usual. Be careful not to over-file. Stop filing when you can still see a thin, even layer of Build it Base on the nail, without exposing the natural nail.

Step 2 - Soak off the remaining gel

Soak a Remover Wrap with Remover and wrap it tightly around the nail. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes to allow the Build it Base to break down. Giving it enough time to soften makes removal easier and helps prevent unnecessary scraping.

Step 3 - Remove the gel

Gently twist off the Remover Wraps to lift most of the softened Build it Base. Any remaining gel should be easy to push off with a Woodstick—it should come away without resistance. If the gel still feels firm or doesn’t slide off easily, rewrap the nail and soak for a few more minutes before trying again.

Step 4 - Care for your nails and cuticles

Once all the Build it Base is removed, wash your hands to get rid of any residue. Apply Cuticle Oil and massage it into your nails and cuticles for deep hydration, then finish with a hand cream to nourish your skin. If you’re planning to do a new manicure, wait before applying oils or creams, as they can affect the adhesion of your next gel application.

Now that your Build it Base is removed, your nails are ready for a fresh start. You can reapply Build it Base, go for a new gel polish manicure, or let your natural nails breathe for a while. If you want to maintain your Build it Base instead of fully removing it next time, you can also choose to infill it rather than start from scratch. Whatever you decide, proper removal helps keep your nails strong and healthy.
