The sun starts to shine again: protect you gel polish from UV rays!

The sun's rays break through the clouds, bringing us not only warmer days but also some unique challenges in the realm of gel polish. With this blog, we aim to enhance your understanding of the sun's impact on gel polish, so you can protect your manicure and products from the unexpected effects of sunlight.

Prevent "bits" in your gel polish

Something we must not forget is that the sun emits UV radiation, and gel polish can be cured with this UV radiation. Therefore, if you store your polish on a windowsill or in direct sunlight, the lifespan of the gel polish will be reduced. Even if you think of enjoying doing your nails outside, in the garden or on the balcony, it can bring about problems, even when done in the shade. This can result in a polish that appears thicker or even contains bits. The damage might be minimal, with perhaps only the brush becoming hardened. Consider this a warning that your gel polish has been exposed to UV radiation. Fortunately, we also sell replacement brushes so you can continue using your bottle of gel polish!

Following this, it's important to keep your (open) bottle out of reach of the light from the LED lamp. So, do not paint in front of the lamp and always place the bottle behind the lamp when it is on.

Although a quick photo in the garden can be beautiful, direct sunlight can change the texture of your gel polish, even with our darkening bottle that tries to keep as much UV light out as possible. Our advice? Photograph your gel polish products indoors and outside direct sunlight for the most reliable result.

The Mysterious Lamp

The premium lamp from Pink Gellac are equipped with a light-sensitive on/off sensor. Therefore, if your lamp does not work as you are accustomed, it may be due to sunlight or bright artificial light falling on the sensor. Move the lamp to a less brightly lit place and notice the difference.

Discolourations: Greenish and Yellowish

You're probably familiar with this: you place decorations on a windowsill, and over time they become discoloured or faded. The same can happen with gel polish. These unwanted changes can be minimised by using our Shine Top Coat, which contains a UV filter. Note: some colours are especially sensitive to sunlight: 110 Mystic, 118 Lavender Purple, 345 Heavenly Pink, 347 Soft Jade, and 348 Teal Blue.

Don't let the sun spoil your beautiful work. With the right precautions, you can continue to enjoy perfect nails, time and time again.
